BROOKLYN — Republican Candidate for Comptroller Chris Callaghan made his first campaign speech in Brooklyn as the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club at Peggy O’Neill’s in Bay Ridge last week.
The meeting was attended by about 50 people who heard Callaghan outline his plans for New York if elected comptroller, and why the incumbent, Alan Hevesi, must be defeated in November.
Bob Capano, president of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club, stated, "Chris Callaghan has 35 years of experience in government finance. He has an outstanding record, including being elected three times as the Treasurer of Saratoga County — New York State’s lowest taxed county."
Callaghan stated, "It was great to visit Brooklyn and even greater to visit with the Brooklyn Young Republicans. Having the support of the Young Republican Club in Brooklyn and throughout the State makes me even more confident of my chances of victory this November."
A graduate of the State University at Albany, Chris Callaghan has been engaged in the business of government finances since 1971, when he served as an accountant for the Facilities Development Corporation. Callaghan has also been active in Republican politics since 1969, when he served as president of the Waterford Young Republicans.
Callaghan served as budget officer for the Town of Waterford from 1980 to 1986, and as a management analyst in the Saratoga County administrator’s office from 1983 to 1997. In 1997, Governor George E. Pataki appointed Callaghan to be Saratoga County.
The Brooklyn Young Republican Club meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Peggy O’Neill’s in Bay Ridge (8123 5th Avenue). For further information, go to www.brooklynyr.com.
