First Republican DA Elected in NYC Since Thomas Dewey to Address Brooklyn Group

[Brooklyn, NY] – Bob Capano, President of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club, today announced that Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan will be the guest speaker at the January 10th meeting of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Peggy O’Neill’s, located at 8123 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Bob Capano, President of the Brooklyn Young Republican Club stated, "As we rebuild the Republican Party in New York, we need to showcase leaders like Dan Donovan, who has revitalized the Staten Island DA’s office. It is no wonder that many Republicans and Conservatives urged him to consider running for State Attorney General this past year. We are thrilled to have him address our club in Brooklyn."

Elected in 2003, Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan was the first Republican elected to that office in over 50 years, and he is the first Republican DA elected in NYC since Thomas E. Dewey. According to state statistics, Donovan’s office has led the City of New York in its conviction rate each quarter that he’s been in office. He has paid particular attention to the prosecution of quality of life crimes, drunk driving, as well as illegal guns and domestic violence.

D.A. Donovan has also been aggressively pursuing a strong legislative agenda including: civil confinement, the death penalty, eliminating the statute of limitations for rape, and tightening the laws governing sex offenders. Donovan is up for re-election in 2007.

The Brooklyn Young Republican meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Peggy O’Neill’s in Bay Ridge (8123 5th Avenue). For further information, please visit http://wp-brooklynyr.rhcloud.com
