January Meeting

Posted by Brooklyn Young Republican Club

Kick off the New Year at our monthly club meeting with guest speaker Dan Donovan!

Elected in 2003, Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan was the first Republican elected to that office in over 50 years and is the first Republican DA elected in NYC since Thomas E. Dewey.

In just three short years he has revitalized an office which consistently ranked near the bottom of every category. In fact, according to state statistics Dan Donovan’s office has lead the city of New York in its conviction rate each quarter that he’s been in office. He has paid particular attention to the prosecution of quality of life crimes, drunk driving, as well as illegal guns and domestic violence.

D.A. Donovan has also been aggressively pursuing a strong legislative agenda including: civil confinement, the death penalty, eliminating the statute of limitations for rape, and tightening the laws governing sex offenders and DWI.

His first term was so impressive that many Republicans and Conservatives encouraged him to become a candidate for state Attorney General last year. He declined that opportunity to instead focus and his current position for which he is running for re-election this year.
