November Meeting: Post-Election Discussion – Where Do We Republicans Stand After 2008?

7:00 PM – Meeting

** All are welcome to attend **
Now that Election Day is over, we Republicans know how we did this election both locally and nationally.
In Brooklyn, we have nothing left except State Senator Marty Golden, who ran unopposed this Election Day. Though many of our local candidates fought tough campaigns, only one race got close to 50% of the vote, a few got more than 25% percent, and many in the teens or not even breaking 5%. The New York State Senate is in Democratic hands, rendering one party rule in Albany and giving Democrats the advantage of redrawing district lines in the next few years that can virtually deny any chance of a Republican insurgence for generations to come. President-elect Barack Obama won with a somewhat more strongly entrenched Democratic Congressional majority, rendering one party rule in Washington, D.C. as well.
Competition is essential both to our capitalist economic system as well as our free and open democratic republic. It is therefore our civic and moral duty to compete effectively against monopoly and provide the public with choices that represent to the best of our ability in accordance with our principles what’s right for the people and for our government.
It is abundantly clear that we must have a conversation about the future of our party in light of these results. We will be holding such a discussion on where we Republicans stand after 2008 and what our role as Young Republicans needs to be.
JOINING US WILL BE:
ANDREW S. ERISTOFF
FORMER NYC COUNCIL MEMBER AND McCAIN/PALIN MANHATTAN COORDINATOR
