Introducing the Brooklyn YR ActionCast! Wednesday, May 19th @ 8:30 PM

Posted by Brooklyn Young Republican Club

Ladies and gentleman, friends and members, the Brooklyn Young Republican Club is once again taking the cutting-edge of political activism to a whole new level!

We live in the 21st century. Ask yourselves these questions: How often do we actually mail someone a letter to communicate with friends? How many more text messages do we send compared to the number of phone calls we make? How many of us actually spend as much time at parties and meetings as we do passively flipping through our Facebook feeds or browsing random YouTube videos?

Communications, social interactions, and the culture of political organization has evolved into an unlimited number of profound new enhancements that utilize the internet, streaming video, and social media.

Our Board has spend quite a lot of time planning and experimenting to provide Young Republicans and reformers throughout Brooklyn with the best possible venue and experience for your active engagement and involvement in our great borough. We know schlepping to-and-fro on the subways or buses on a weeknight is not exactly your idea of the perfect evening. You’re either tired, hungry, both or something else.

But I know that once you get home from work, school or whatever, the first thing you probably will do is check out who poked you on Facebook, or watch the latest YouTube clip of someone’s cat swinging from the ceiling fan. Maybe you’ll get engrossed in the next episode of American Idol, or get yourself irritated for fun by listening to another one of Keith Olbermann’s insipid rants.

Well, if you’re more likely to do that, why shouldn’t you be able to do so with the rest of your fellow Brooklyn YRs?

That’s why we’re launching the monthly Brooklyn YR ActionCast! It’s an interactive, real-time online experience that will actually function as the test tube baby equivalent of an American Idol, Hardball, and your favorite call-in talk show. There will be online, instant voting, live discussions with guests speakers, club members and officers of the club on a whole range of issues. It will function as our monthly meeting, but without the schlepping or the other unappealing aspects of a typical political club meeting.

So instead of you coming to the club, the club’s coming to you!

Instead of you going to hear the candidate, the candidate is coming to talk with you!

Instead of you searching to find out what’s going on in Brooklyn Republican politics, the news is going to be delivered to you personally in the comfort of your own home or favorite neighborhood cafe, or wherever you want to be!

It’s all about making your life easier to become an active, well-informed Brooklyn Young Republican!

So join us for our inaugural ActionCast on Wednesday, May 19th at 8:30 PM. Before you participate, please read the really important information about how to participate in our FAQ section below.

We also recognize the importance of in-person interaction, which we will be sponsoring through frequent social events and other get-together, but those will be focused on having fun and getting to know each other better so we can work to accomplish our goals in the years to come.

See you on a computer screen near you next Wednesday!

President

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I log into the ActionCast?

A: Log on to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/brooklyn-young-republican-actioncast to watch and participate.

Q: How can I participate in the ActionCast?

A: When the ActionCast is live, you will see an option that says “Cohost” on the top-left hand corner of the screen. You must have either a built-in camera and microphone on your computer, a USB webcam, or some other comparable device that allows you to record video and sound on your computer. If you don’t have one, the cheapest options are available at Best Buy, Amazon.com, and other retail stores for about $20-$30. Occasionally, you will see a “Poll” option on the screen, which means that there’s an instant poll going on in which you can vote! Be sure to click it and register your response!

Q: I’m not a member of the club, but I’d like to be able to ask questions, vote and participate in any live discussion. How can I do that?

A: As during in-person meetings, the right of anyone who is not a club member to speak is at the discretion of the President. However, the Brooklyn Young Republican Club wants this to be a public experience not only for club members but also any interested member of the public. There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to be heard, but paid club members will always be given priority (yearly club membership ranges from $15 to $25, so it’s cheap enough to obtain that status to get these and many other great benefits). There will be instant polls and other interactive elements that we will ask everyone to participate in, plus there will be a live chat and the ability to integrate Facebook and Twitter simultaneously with the rest of your ActionCast experience, all of which we will be monitoring and responding to throughout the course of the ActionCast.

Q: How can I become a member?

A: Sign up at www.brooklynyr.com/join-us/

Q: There’s a political event/community issue going on in my neighborhood, and I’d like to give a report/get coverage in the ActionCast. How can I do this?

A: Most of us have camera phones that allow us to upload videos to Facebook, YouTube–you name it. We want to hear from you and cover anything of significance that you would want to share with an audience of Brooklyn Young Republicans. Share your video with us by email to BrooklynYR@gmail.com and we will pick the best ones for our next ActionCast!

Q: Do I have to be in Brooklyn to watch and/or participate?

A: No! You can be anywhere in the world watching or talking with potentially anyone in the world!

Q: Does it cost anything to watch/participate?

A: Nope! It’s completely free! If you want priority in discussions or to vote on matters that affect the club (i.e. resolutions, elections, etc.) you must be a dues-paying member of the club.
