Remembering DR. Martin Luther King JR.
Posted by Brooklyn Young Republican Club
Today we Reflect on the life of DR. Martin Luther King JR. Let us never forget the words from his ( I have a Dream speech.)
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.”
Let us pray that we continue as a nation to learn from the lessons that DR. Martin Luther King JR taught us, and that we continue to grow in ensuring that all races are protected from all forms of discrimination. From the Brooklyn Young Republican Club. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a movement , and those who thought his death would result in the end of that movement were mistaken . His words and ideals had been shared, welcomed , and embraced. The opposition was able to away his life but not his dreams, because they were dreams shared amongst americans across our great nation. His dreams lived on in the hearts of the righteous. His words were the spark that started a movement that spread like wild fire. A fire that would rage on for years and would refuse to be exstinguished. What was left when the fire went out? A leveled surface, though it was charred and the ashes of the past remained, the land was eventually ready to be cultivated , and that it was. With the end result being the nation we live in today. Dr.Martin Luther king Jr’s blood spilled , his heart stopped , his body was buried and yet his dreams lived on to become a reality. His dream survived his death , and today we are living that dream, thanks to Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.
