Brooklyn City Councilwoman Darlene Mealy wasn’t up for any elected post on Tuesday — but that didn’t stop her from having a lucrative Election Day, reports our Jake Pearson:

Fuming political rivals are charging that Mealy (D-Brownsville) secretly nominated herself as the Election Day monitor for the 55th Assembly District — a job for which the Board of Elections pays $300.

“I feel annoyed and betrayed,” said Post Office custodian Albert Jenkins, 64, who trained for the job and believed he would be working on Tuesday — until he found out that morning that Mealy had taken it for herself.

“What’s the point of taking a day off of work if you can be removed at the last minute?”

Mealy, who makes an annual salary of $122,500, hung up on a reporter when reached on her cell phone about her extra $300 day.
