Andrew Windsor
Vice President & Chair of Legislative Affairs, Bay Ridge Rod & Gun Club
&
Michael Colihan, Esq.
Chair of Legal Affairs, Bay Ridge Rod & Gun Club The Second Amendment, though short, is a particularly important part of the United States Constitution for America as a free and democratic nation:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
It is the ultimate legal guarantee that no human being is forced to entrust their personal safety and that of their family and community solely in the hands of government. As history has taught, governments can be fickle about whether their exclusive privilege of bearing arms remains benevolent or not.
However, between aggressive gun "control" laws that seek to deprive law-abiding citizens the ability to own as much as a pistol for self-defense, and most recently, D.C. v. Heller, whose outcome could reinforce or radically change the very meaning of the Second Amendment as we know it, the state of the Second Amendment is in question.
Luckily, we have two excellent Brooklyn-based experts on the issue to help us find out what the state of the Second Amendment is today.
About Andrew Windsor Andrew was born in Brooklyn and spent his childhood in Queens, before returning to Brooklyn and currently lives in Bath Beach with his wife Laurie, who is the President of the Community Education Council (CEC) for District 20 and their three children.
For the last two years, Andrew has been elected to serve in an executive capacity on the Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC). Finishing out the ’07-’08 term as 2nd V.P., Andrew will be moving into the office of 1st V.P. for the ’08-’09 Council Year. Representing two long-standing and yet very different organizations on BRCC, he has endeavored to involve those organizations in areas far beyond its originally incorporated purposes.
As one of the Wardens, or lay leaders within the governing body of St. John’s Episcopal Church “The Church of the Generals”, Andrew has been active in leading the direction of the parish for over 10 years and guided it through a much troubled and publicized period only to see its reemergence within the community. It’s sponsoring of Veterans events, theater group productions and a senior citizens nutrition center reaches out and makes it a place for all people in the community.
Additionally, Andrew is a member of the Bay Ridge Rod & Gun Club and represents it interests on the Bay Ridge Community Council. Being a long-time hunter and firearms enthusiast he has been an active member of the Club for over 4 years. Serving as V.P. and Chairman of the Legislative Affairs Committee, Andrew continues to strive to enlighten the community and our elected officials on the many misconceptions and overtly incorrect labels associated with responsible gun ownership and more importantly the Right to keep and bear arms. Understanding that the future of the shooting sports and hunting are held in its future participants, Andrew has been appointed to the Kings County Committee for the Friends of the NRA to help mentor, teach and raise awareness of the shooting sports and its benefits.
He currently is employed at The New York Hotel Trades Council & Hotel Association Employee Benefit Funds – an ERISA Fund- where he is the Director of the Administrative Services Division and serves on the Senior Executive Staff team for the organization.
Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in History from St. Francis College, Pennsylvania and holds a Masters of Public Administration/Health Care Policy from New York University’s Robert Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
(Special thanks to the St. Francis College Government & Politics Club for generously securing space at their college, helping to further our collective mission of bringing meaningful political dialogue to all Brooklynites!)
Brooklyn is home to over 2.5 million people from virtually every race and religion from throughout the world. Many in our country can trace some part of their life to our borough. If it was an independent city, as Brooklyn was prior to 1898, it would be the fourth largest city in the country. In addition to its size and the incredible cultural diversity that you will find here, Brooklyn has yet another defining characteristic that makes it unique – its politics.
The borough of Brooklyn is overwhelmingly Democrat by an over 7-...
Thank you, Bob. Firstly, I want to thank all of you for your support in this endeavor. I want to thank the new officers, my good friends Sam, Christina, and Alex for taking on this task with me. Most importantly, I want to thank especially Bob and Britta, with whom I have had the greatest pleasure working, and who have been true friends to me.
Now, before I move onto business, I have a funny story to tell you that I recently heard.
A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came u...
As you know, I decided not to run for re-election as President of the Brooklyn YR Club and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support over the past two years. It has been an honor to lead such a growing and vibrant organization with the dedicated help of a great Executive Board, specifically Britta Vander Linden, Jonathan Judge, Alex Buchholz, and Georgea Kay.
As I allow more time for myself to pursue other personal and professional goals over the next couple of years, I am confident that the new Executive Board, led by President Jonathan J...
